That’s already quite impressive but where the phone really stands out is in its download speeds and its picture-taking capability. Like the Galaxy S II, the Amaze 4G should, in theory at least, be able to achieve download speeds as high as 42Mbps using the HSPA+42 network. In practice, it might be a while before you’re lucky enough to find a network available that offers those speeds.

You will be able to use the phone’s camera though, and it’s here that HTC have placed a great deal of emphasis. When it comes to listing the device’s features, much of its marketing is focused on the camera’s powerful picture-taking potential. The phone packs an 8 megapixel rear lens and a 2 megapixel front camera supported by a host of picture-taking software features.

SmartShot, for example, takes five shots then combines the best bits into one image which should be perfect. So if one photo captures you with your eyes closed, and another forgetting to smile, then the final image would still have you smiling with your eyes open.

Perfect Pics chooses your best pictures for you, based on image quality. Other features are a little more conventional but no less useful. BurstShot produces five consecutive shots from one click; SweepShot creates panoramas; and ClearShot is helpful in poor light conditions.

The Amaze 4G is definitely a high-end phone with great potential speeds, and armed with the kind of camera powerful enough to let you leave your point-and-shoot at home.
